Embrace Foss, ditch Windows - choose Linux
Why even bother switching?
Ill try to keep this as short as possible, because ill likely pick up on this later in this article so.
Why should you switch from a stable os to something where one wrong move means destroying your entire install?
The answer isnt that easy and for some people, Windows is just fine, although I do think some dont even realize, that Linux isnt something unfinished and YOU can actually learn it and benefit from it in the long run.
Choosing Linux means ditching a company who keeps on pushing unwanted changes to an OS, that dont benefit the consumer.
Following a test whether you should switch or not
Is Linux the right choice?
Linux?
Do you like freedom on your own hard and software?Do you mind tinkering if something doesnt work as intended right away?Do you (want to) work in a tech related job?Do you care about privacy?

How to switch and where to start?
I cant remember how many times i installed a linux distro on a dual-boot disk and then never use it again just to wipe the harddrive and install a different distro. The start is this tho, each install whether you end up using it as a daily driver or (like me) needed it for some project that had a dependency not working on Windows, leads you to understanding a bit more on how linux works.
What im trying to say is, dont overthink it too much, like anything else in life, practice makes perfect.
The Choice may seem overwhelming at first and i get it, it is overwhelming. So here a few tips on how to decide.
- distrochooser.de, can be a good tool to get a grasp on what is there fitting your needs
- watch videos or search for reddit posts
- look for specific words like “gaming” or “office” or whatever fits your needs
- if you cant decide, just pick something beginner-friendly like Linux Mint and switch later if needed
Once you decided you should get to know the basics of your new friend, the terminal.
Also, again, take a look at fmhy.net –> (more on that here: entry:FMHY)
I want to switch, but what about my games
Gaming on Linux is better than ever thanks to Valves support. Proton enables you to play almost any Win game on Linux.
ProtonDB: shows what tweaks make the game work (even better) and tells you whether your game is supported.
AreWeAntiCheatYet: for those playing a game protected by an anticheat, this site tells you if it is supported.
